    ABOUT US

The Ethiopian Community EDIR (ECE) was established in August 2008 by voluntary Ethiopians/Ethiopian-Americans legally residing in DFW, TX. It is structured as a special unit under the auspices of the MAAEC Inc., designated for a specific purpose in assisting participants-only to cover funeral expenses. It has its own regulation to run its operations.

The Ethiopian Community EDIR (ECE) is a community-based cooperative intended to help each other at times of death. The idea of EDIR emanated from our culture of motherland Ethiopia. EDIR is an Amharic term and an Ethiopian culture meaning “a community-based self-help funeral service.

ECE’S primary objective is to provide participants with a community –oriented assistance for funeral expenses and facilitate grief support to the family of the deceased. ECE’s secondary objectives are to educate participants about the benefits of life insurance and living will and the need for the recognition of the reality of the eventual end of our lives that prompts preplanning for families.

The mission of the Ethiopian Community EDIR is to inform and inspire our residents in DFW to ignite change for the common good and be participants to create a strong community cooperative.
